PM Narendra Modi kickstarts work for Asia’s longest Zojila tunnel

Prime Minister is on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday where he will inaugurate a number of projects in Ladakh and the Kashmir Valley. While laying foundation stones for many infrastructural projects. He is likely to dedicate the 330-MW Kishenganga Power Project to the nation which will be constructed in Gurez area of Kashmir.

The ambitious Zojilla tunnel will also be inaugurated today. “The prime minister will attend the commencement of work on Zojila tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway at an event in Jive-tsal in Leh tomorrow,” an official spokesman said yesterday. The two-lane bi-directional tunnel was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which was chaired by the prime minister.

“The prime minister will attend the commencement of work on Zojila tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway at an event in Jive-tsal in Leh tomorrow,” an official spokesman said.

Modi will also lay foundation stone for the Srinagar Ring Road and Jammu Ring Road at separate events at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) Srinagar and at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu.

Massive security arrangements have been made for the Prime Minister’s Jammu and Kashmir visit. As the separatists have called for a protest in Srinagar, security around the venue has been tightened and barricades have been erected at Lal Chowk, a major protest centre.
