Police arrests another PFI activist in connection to Ramalingam murder, number of detainees goes up to 9

Another person has been detained by the police in connection to the brutal murder of Tamil Nadu Hindu activist Ramalingam. Mohammed Ibrahim, the latest to have been detained, is reportedly a key functionary of the controversial outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI).

With the latest arrest, so far 9 have been detained in the case. Out of this, two were directly involved with the PFI. It is being suspected that some of the other also had connections with the outfit. Three accused in the case are reportedly still absconding.

Ramalingam, who had reportedly infuriated some from the Muslim community after the stopping religious conversions in a Dalit dominated village, was brutally murdered outside of his residence at midnight, almost a week back. As per police sources, the vehicle which the killers had used to chase Ramalingam was owned by Ibrahim.

The Popular Front Of India, however held several protests demanding release of their functionaries, saying that they are being falsely framed in the case. It held a demonstration in Chennai on Thursday to demand the release of the men.

Meanwhile, several people from across the country started a fundraiser to support the family of deceased Ramalingam. The fundraiser has collected more than 30 lakhs so far.
