Why Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu should not step down

One of the most respected & educated Member of Parliament, Suresh Prabhu is not new to Indian Politics. He is well respected across the party-line. His journey started as a ShivSena leader & became Lok Sabha MP 4 times in a row from Rajapur seat. Under Vajpayee government he was rated as a Top performer.

Suresh Prabhu, known for his reformation strategy in given ministry & task, marked his presence in different ministries during NDA-1. He efficiently managed Industry Minister, Minister of Environment & Forests, Minister of Fertilizers & Chemicals, Power, Heavy Industry & Public Enterprises.

Undoubtedly, his contribution as a Union Minister for Power won hearts for enacting The Electricity Act, 2003. Not only capability but also his dedication enabled him to efficiently Chair the Task Force for Interlinking of Rivers. His finance skills & knowledge proved to be a deep asset when he was elected as a member of the World Bank parliamentary network and chaired the South Asia Water regional group of the World Bank & made India proud.

In 2014, even Prime-Minister Modi could not find anyone better than Suresh Prabhu for one of the largest public serving ministry that connects India widely with more than 66 thousand KM network.

1st time as a Railway Minister in 2015 Suresh Prabhu presented rail budget , keeping Aam-Aadmi in mind & tried reaching upon everyone’s expectations. No passenger fare hike, No announcement of new train, SMS alerts, Extension time frame in advance booking, Operation 5 mins, Addition of general class coach, Railway display network, Adarsh station scheme, Swach rail programme,138 for helpline, 182 for security, 24/7 toll free system, Wifi, CCTV ,Women safety, Special meal & wheel-chair booking & to build 1.38lac KM tracks in coming 5 years were the major steps that got applaud from everyone.

His 2nd Railway budget in 2016 has no major changes but kept Common-man centered & that appreciated by Modi. No fare hike for passengers, Competitive freight tariff, 17k additional bio-vacuum toilets, cleaning service through SMS, Travel insurance, Removing unmanned crossing, Smart train, Executive Lounge, WakeUp call Facility, Railway magazine, More comfort for senior citizen & women through birth reservation, Janani Seva and Accessible India campaign. New trains & progressive vision for double decker trains are eye grabber.

Though above both the budgets do not share large picture to some crtics about Indian railway but his connect through social media & IT for Rail provide instante solution for passengers queries, complaints & tweets. Over last 2 year Suresh Prabhu certainly got in passenger friendly reform with rapid changing & fastest growing public transport. In his recent announcement he spoke about “Redevelopment Of India Railway” that will be changing the India Railway image in coming few years.
With recent Utkal & Kaifiyat Express incident many people started raising fingers on Prabhu’s caliber. Every year Indian Railways need to upgrade about 4500 to 5500km track but in FY17 near about 2500km could only possible. Lack of funds & very less maintenance time due to heavy traffic are the core issues for such accidents. With the use of IT, Suresh Prabhu & his team is achieving extra mile. I can’t deny the fact that every human life is important but two incident can’t not tarnish his contribution & vision for Indian Railways. Even though as a union minister he is taking complete responsibility, we can’t get disagree with the fact after those accident, he made sure medical & rescue team help every injured.

And the fact is, so far he has done very well and taking Indian railways at reform stage. As a Union Railway Minister he has many other things to take care and many more changes to be made for everyone’s safety. His vision to make Indian Railway world’s largest public transport with world class facility, safety, accessibility & accountability in profitable manner is close to reality.
