Rajan eyeing political innings? Former RBI boss reportedly involved in Congress manifesto for 2019

Is the former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, planning for a political innings with the Congress party? The speculations began after news reports suggested that a report on the state of employment in India, authored by Rajan, will be a part of Congress party’s vision document. If reports are to be believed then Rajan’s report will likely serve as one of the main pillars of the Congress party manifesto for 2019 elections.

Ever since Narendra Modi led NDA took over the Government at centre in 2014, Rajan on multiple occasions, has publicly voiced his opinion against the economic policies of the incumbent regime. He has frequently criticised the policies undertaken by the Narendra Modi led government.

The Modi government, however has never publicly suggested any differences with Rajan, either during his tenure as the RBI boss or after that. As a matter of fact both, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and finance Minister Arun Jaitley, have always been all-praise, whenever speaking about Rajan on public platforms.

Rajan’s critics, for long, have accused him of being a Congress sympathiser. To back their claims, the critics often point towards his silence on the economic policies during the previous UPA regime. But with now a report by Rajan, likely becoming a part of Congress manifestos, speculations are rife that the former RBI chief might just be planning to venture into the political field soon.
