In what would come across as a shocking statement to many, Gyan das Mahant, the chief priest of Kapil Muni Ashram in West Bengal’s Sagar Island, has said that Ram Mandir would be constructed if Mamata Banerjee becomes the Prime Minister. Mamata Banerjee, who is currently on a visit of South 24 Pargana District, went to Kapil Muni’s Ashram or hermitage on Wednesday to oversee the arrangements of Ganga-Sagar pilgrimage. During this, she met with the chief priest, and later both came out to address a joint press conference.
“Didi becoming the Prime Minister is in nation’s interest. Ram Mandir would be constructed if someone like her becomes Prime Minister. It is the desire of sages and saints of India to see Ram temple, however BJP only promises it before elections but later forgets.”
The priest came down heavily on BJP, saying that the party has reduced Lord Rama to a polling agent. Banerjee, who was standing alongside the cleric, said that there is no discrimation based on faith in this country. ” We respect everyone equally, we have only identity and that is Indian,” she said.
The comment that Ram temple would be constructed if Mamata Banerjee comes to power is surprising, given the fact that she has been trying to rally all the so-called secular parties against BJP in upcoming general elections.
In past one year or so, Banerjee has held meetings with leaders of various regional parties, this include, Naveen Pattnaik, KCR, Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Chandrababu Naidu, among others.
