Telecom minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad while releasing a commemorative postal stamp on women empowerment said that Indian post may soon be releasing stamps on the Ramayan and Mahabharat series as it is part of our tremendously rich culture and should be honored. Besides this, stamps honoring freedom fighters of India such as Sukhdev, Batukeshwar Dutt and Ashfaqullah Khan will also be released.
Ravi Shankar prassed said that besides being used for commemorative purposes, stamps on freedom fighters should also be available for regular use to the public. “If someone wants stamp of Subhash Chandra Bose or Bhagat Singh it should be available at post offices,” the minister added. The minister mentioned that he has directed the postal department to ensure that these stamps are available for regular use to the common man.
On adding Ramayan and Mahabharat stamps, the minister mentioned that the country’s great cultural concepts such as Ramayan and Mahabharat should be respected and hence, we may soon such postal stamps on iconic moments from these epics soon.
The stamps of Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and other freedom fighters will be available for regular use, he said.
BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who was present on the occasion, said women did not have power to franchise in developed countries like the US and Switzerland for many years but India gave them this power the day it achieved independence.
