Is Ranveer Singh playing a bisexual in Padmavati?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently neck-deep in the making of his magnum opus Padmavati. The period drama is based on the ruthless invader Alauddin Khilji and his attempt to capture the beautiful Rani Padmini of Chittor for himself.

If reports are to be believed, the filmmaker is not just going to explore Alauddin’s fascination with Rani Padmini, but also his attraction to his slave-general Malik Kafur.

If this is true, it will be the first time that Ranveer Singh will play a bisexual character on screen. Earlier, the actor had said on a podcast that he would not mind playing such roles, but the script would have to be really special for him to do so.

Kafur’s character is being played by Jim Sarbh, the actor who gained recognition after playing the role of one of the hijackers in Neerja.

Historian Devdutt Patnaik has said that Khilji ‘bought’ Kafur from a slave market in Gujarat after being ‘mesmerized by his beauty,’ during one of his ‘bacha baazi’ outings.

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone, who will be seen as Rani Padmini in the film, is reportedly getting paid more than her male co-stars, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Deepika will earn a staggering Rs 13 crore from the film, while Ranveer and Shahid will take home Rs 10 crore each.
