Mukherjee, who was welcomed by the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, had to walk through narrow lanes to reach the house where Hedgewar was born and also removed his shoes before entering the place.
Mukherjee, who arrived in Nagpur on Wednesday, will address the valedictory function of the RSS’s third-year officers’ training camp at its headquarters in Reshimbagh.
Around 700 swayamsevaks from places across the country will participate in the camp, also known as the Sangh Shiksha Varga (Sangh training class). The RSS said it had invited the former president in keeping with a tradition of calling eminent people to the annual event.
Mukherjee, who reached Nagpur last evening, has been invited by the RSS to address its Shiksha Varg and attend a parade by the Sangh workers on completion of the training camp. Mukherjee’s decision to attend the RSS event has already triggered a major political slugfest with several Congress leaders criticising his decision.
