Sharma, a RSS city mahanagar chief of Ferozabad district, was having dinner with family when he got a call on his mobile on Tuesday night. He came out of his house, while talking o the phone and had barely walked 10 metres away from his house when two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants came from behind and shot him at point-blank range.
Later, BJP and RSS workers gheraoed the SP office and raised slogans against the police. They alleged that Sharma had sought protection from police but was denied. They lifted the demonstration only after assurance of adequate compensation and immediate arrest of the killers.
Eye-witnesses say Sharma was shocked to see the assailants and tried to run back home. This clearly suggests that Sharma and assailants knew each other, said Arun Kumar, Circle Officer. A case has been registered against unidentified persons. More details awaited.
