Senior CPIM leader compares Sabarimala head priest with donkeys

Kerala PWD Minister and CPI-M leader G Sudhakaran on Sunday insulted the Priests of famous Sabarimala temple, by comparing them with donkeys. He said that donkeys in temple town of Sabarimala have more grace than the head priest (Tantri).

The CPIM leaders of Kerala are known to be angered with Sabarimala priests for openly joining protests against the Supreme Court directive of allowing women of reproductive age inside the shrine. The Minister’s statement came while he was addressing a cultural event in Kerala’s Alappuzha.

“At the temple town, it is the donkeys that do most of the work. Till date, they have not gone on any protest. After their hard work, they take rest near the Pamba river. These donkeys have more grace than the Tantri,” Sudhakaran said. The Minister further went on to say that the Tantris (priests) do not seem to have any attachment or concern for Lord Ayyappa.

Much to the Ire of the state government, head priest of Sabarimala had said that he would close down the temple if any traditions are violated. In response to this, Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan had said that “Sabarimala temple would remain” even if any priest left.
