Shahi Imam of Chandni Chowk’s Fatehpuri Masjid calls the attack on Hindu temple a “small incident”

The brutal attack on a Hindu temple situated in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi has outraged people across the country. Several videos showing a mob of over 300 ransacking the temple amid cries of “Nara-e-Takbeer Allah-hu-Akbar” are going viral on the Internet. People from different walks of life have reacted strongly to the incident.

Meanwhile, the Shahi Imam of Chandni Chowk’s Fatehpuri Masjid has issued a video requesting people to abstain from any kind of provocation or violence.

In the video, the Imam can be heard saying that the attack on the temple was a “chhota sa waqiya (small incident).” He then adds that he is concerned over the developments in the issue. The Imam clarifies that though he is concerned and condemns such incidents, some people are trying to spread rumours over a small matter.

The Imam further says that the facts regarding the attack such as who were involved and how much damage was really inflicted should be thoroughly investigated.

He added that though he supports action against the culprits, it will be better if RWA members and the local seniors try and solve the issues by talks and amicable discussions between parties concerned.
