State of States This Week 7th to 13th September 2015

State of States is an initiative by Satyameva Jayate that focuses on the good work being done by the state governments or central government in a particular state. The main focus is to highlight positive stories that are going to benefit a specific state. Such news items are rarely picked up by the national media houses and are mostly ignored except in form of a news article somewhere. 1) ABVP Sweeps DUSU Polls and CYSS Finishes third.

Outside the counting centre for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) celebrated its clean sweep by bursting crackers and chanting slogans, while members of other unions looked on.
2) Maharashtra Bank launches soil and water health card for farmers

In a bid to help farmers increase soil productivity by appropriate use of fertilizers, Bank of Maharashtrahas launched a soil and water health card which will help them ascertain the nutrient status of their farm lands.

3) Maharashtra Bank launches soil and water health card for farmers

Global Positioning System (GPS) will be installed in all 12,000 buses of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation before October 12 to monitor their movement, an official has said.

The monitoring with GPS will enable the depot-level staff to inform the passengers about the arrival and departure of buses in advance, which would ultimately improve occupancy, APSRTC Managing Director N Sambasiva Rao told reporters on Thursday.

4) E-voting – Gujarat shows the Way for Digital India
Gujarat government made voting compulsory in local body elections. Now to make it easier for voter the government has set up a website where they can register and then cast their votes from the comfort of their home or wherever they are. All they need is desktop or laptop or smartphone with internet connection.
 5) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed launches ‘Model School Scheme’ in Jammu & Kashmir

Aiming at providing quality education for all, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today launched the ‘Model School Scheme’ by inaugurating the state’s first government model school in Basohli.

“I am happy we are making a new beginning from Basohli and Jammu, from where we will take this movement to other parts of the state,” Sayeed said.

6) Puducherry governmemnt & Novo Nordisk steps to combat diabetes

The Puducherry government has joined hands with Novo Nordisk Education Foundation (NNEF) to evolve sustained plan to act against diabetes in the Union territory.

A release from the foundation said formation of a state-level round table on Friday marked the first step in laying a road map for a healthy Puducherry in future. Policy makers, government officials, healthcare professionals, diabetes patients, NGOs, health institutes and other stakeholders held detailed discussions on the current scenario of diabetes in Puducherry.

7) Vasundhara Raje to activate task force to contain seasonal diseases

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today directed medical department to activate block level task force to contain seasonal diseases and to cancel leaves of all medical officers.

Chairing a high-level meeting of the medical and health department at her residence here, Raje also asked the senior officials to send teams of doctors to all the districts, ensure availability of necessary medicines and testing kits, an official spokesperson said

8) Netaji files with Bengal govt to be declassified, says West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday announced to declassify 64 files on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in possession of West Bengal government and put them up in public domain from next Friday (September 18). She also announced to digitize the files dating from 1937 to 1947.
