Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha Passes Away

In a sad turn of events, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Selvi Jayalalitha Jayaram, has passed away. Reportedly, she had a massive cardiac arrest an hour ago (somewhere around 11:30 PM on 5th December, 2016). Jayalalitha was battling between life and death for the past two-and-a-half months.

Selvi’s body will be kept at Rajaji hall for the last homage. O. Paneerselvam will be the next Chief Minister. He has the support of 135 MLAs (in a 235-strong TN Legislative Assembly). A three-day mourning has been declared in the state.

JJ was an iron lady. She had ruled with complete authority. Her rule was characterised by Centralisation of Power. This was her Fifth term as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
