The truth behind viral video accusing BJP of hatching EVM swapping conspiracy

Ever since the exit poll results came out on Sunday evening, various kind of rumours and dubious reports are making rounds of the social media. One of this is a video by a purported media brand named the TNN World’ (Tricolour News Network).

In the around eight minutes long video, a woman makes sensational claims about BJP using the period between the last day of Lok sabha elections and results day, to replace the polled EVMs with ones containing fake votes in their favour. The entire package talks about the conspiracy and also contains a warning to save the nation from Modi-Shah duo.

The news anchor in the videos says, “post May 19, when every political party and person will be relaxing after the long seven-phase election, the switching over of the EVMs in the strong rooms will happen at this time under the watch of BJP sympathisers within the government and its supporters. Targeted states are West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Kerala.”

The anchor claims of having sources in higher circles of the government. The video is being widely circulated on social media and it also found special endorsement from those in the social media team of the Aam Aadmi Party.

The website Tricolour News Network, is not a credible source of information. The website of TNN says that it only shows uncensored news from around the world. TNN has Facebook and twitter handles too, both of which were opened in January of this year only and are filled with a lot of anti-BJP content.

This is the same website that hosted the video about an US-based expert claiming that the BJP had hacked EVMs to win 2014 Lok Sabha elections. This press conference was held in London on January 21, 2019. It was attended by Congress leader Kapil Sibal.

The same website had also accused that the BJP was involved in exchanging scrapped notes after demonetisation on a commission of 40 per cent. However, on both instance it failed to come up with any solid evidence to back up its claims. Going by the content, it is safe to say that TNN is nothing but an anti-BJP propaganda website.

Now coming to the ownership of this website, which also very interesting. As per the records publicly available, TNN was incorporated on November 29, 2018, by Diana Irina Biciin. A Romanian national, Diana is the sole shareholder and director of the firm that bears the address of London. However, a little more deep investigation revealed that this address is actually of London-based agency Company ‘Formation Made Simple’ that provides a service through which companies can use its office address as their own by paying just 50 pounds per year.

We also found Facebook and LinkedIn accounts of Diana which claim that she is the director of this website. Her Facebook is filled with news about India, mostly against the BJP.
