Brother of TMC councilor accused of murdering a Young Footballer

On Sunday the Government Railway Police recovered the dead body of footballer Snehashish Dasgupta near the Railway tracks close to the seerampore railway station.

According to the family of Snehashish, he went out for pandal hopping with his friends on the day of Navami (29th September). Midway he (Snehashish) had a confrontation with one of his friend named Pinto Nag who is also the brother of local Trinamool Congress (TMC) Councilor Mousumi Nag. Soon after Snehashish returned back to his house, Pinto Nag accompanied by husband of his sister (Mousumi Nag), Mintu Nag and few other people raided his house and dragged Snehashish out. Since then Snehashish had not returned home and on Sunday he was found dead.

The family of Snehashish are accusing the brother and husband of councilor Mousumi Nag of murder. While the accused have rejected the allegations and are insisting that Snehashish had committed suicide. They are pointing towards a creepy post Snehashish made on Facebook which seems like a suicide note.

But the family of the victim are claiming that the post was made by someone else and not by Snehashish himself. The police has arrested Pinto Nag along with two other accused though Mintu Nag is still free.

At one hand our country is dreaming of making it big in football as we are all set to host FIFA U17 WORLD CUP 2017, but on the other hand a young goalkeeper had to face such a fate. Ex-India Internationals like Dibyendu Biswas and Prasoon Banerjee are leaders of TMC, we believe they should speak up and stand with the family of the young footballer.
