Vaishno Devi fire: IAF deploys helicopters to douse Trikuta Hills fire; around 25,000 pilgrims stranded

After a day of uncontrolled fire on the Trikuta Hills near Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, Indian Air Force helicopters have been called in on Wednesday in battling  the fire. The helicopters have been deployed to assist the paramilitary forces and the fire service engaged in battling the flames since Tuesday morning.

An official has informed a Delhi based wire agency, that the wild fires had been spreading but “are likely to be controlled in a few hours. There is no reason to panic”.

“A devastating fire broke out in Trikuta Hills of Mata Vaisnho Devi at new battery car track,” Deputy Commissioner Reasi P Ramaswamy G said, as per The Tribune.

“The registration slip counter was closed,” he said further, adding “around 25,000-30,000 devotees from across the country, are stranded in Katra due to closure of registration counter to avoid rush on old track in view of forest fire.”
