Video: Martyr’s wife bids emotional farewell

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at Kharkhari cremation ground, where Major martyr Dhoundiyal’s wife Nitika Kaul and mother Saroj bade him farewell.

Nitika is daughter of MK Kaul, whose family had left Jammu and Kashmir in the ‘90s during Kashmiri Pandit exodus. As fate would have it, Nitika today lost her husband on the same land while battling terrorists.

A video has, meanwhile, gone viral showing Nitika bidding a tearful adieu to her brave husband by shouting the chants of “Jai Hind.” Paying her last respects to Major Dhoundiyal ahead of his funeral, Nitika could be seen in the video standing by his mortal remains and giving him a flying kiss.

What further gives goosebumps is that she then moves closer to his remains and purportedly whispers “I love you”. She was also seen as saluting the mortal remains of her husband.

Later, news agency ANI reported that she had a message for her husband:

“I’m really proud. We all love you. The way you love everyone is entirely different because you sacrifice your life for the people who you may have never contacted, but still you decided to give your life for them. You are such a brave man. I am very honoured to have you as my husband. I’ll love you till my last breath. I owe my life to you.”

“Yes it’s hurting that you’re leaving but I know you will always be around. I’ll request everyone not to sympathise, rather be very strong because this man holds a position larger than any of us standing here. Let’s salute this man. Jai Hind”.

Major Dhoundiyal, a resident of Dehradun, was on Monday killed in an encounter with JeM terrorists in Pulwama district, just a short distance away from the site where at least 40 CRPF personnel were killed on February 14 in a suicide attack by the terror organisation.
