Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, for the ASEAN-India and the East Asia Summits to strengthen India’s trade and security ties with the strategic Southeast Asian region. He landed there yesterday and his diplomatic trip began with an interaction with Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.
PM Modi also bonded with U.S President Barack Obama at the Gala dinner hosted by Laos PM Thongloun Sisoulith. This is the eight time in 2 years that the two premieres have met and the world is witness to the strengthening Indo-US relations.
Speaking at the 14th ASEAN summit, PM Modi talked about how ASEAN is centre to India’s ‘Act East’ policy and stressed that the ties between India and Laos are a source of harmony in the region. Taking forward India’s strong stand on terror related issues, PM Modi once again rained down on Pakistan without naming it.
