Shameful attack on 62-year-old Navy veteran Madan Sharma by ruling party Shiv Sena’s workers in Maharashtra has sparked nationwide outrage. Common people as well as known personalities from different fields have come out to slam the Maharashtra’s ruling party Shiv Sena and the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Strongly reacting to the incident, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a statement said that “state sponsored terrorism like situation is being created in Maharashtra, through my tweet I’ve requested the Chief Minister Uddhav ji to stop the goon rule,” he said. The former CM and BJP leader further went on to highlight the fact that those Shiv Sena workers who were detained earlier in the day by police as suspects were released within ten minutes.

Whereas, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar shared the same cartoon which brought the wrath of Shiv Sena cadres on the Navy veteran saying, “I enjoyed this cartoon of a woman-bullying, veteran-beating opportunist-in-chief.”

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who has been involved in a dispute with the Shiv Sena lately has also reacted strongly. In a video message, the actress said, “the state’s terror in Maharashtra is increasing with every passing day. Now, an ex service man has been attacked and assaulted in broad daylight by a group of men just because he dared to criticise the government.” She further went on to urge intervention of the Central Government in Maharashtra. Kangana shared her video message on micro-blogging site twitter with the hashtag #Uddhavresignnow.

Terming the incident as the death of freedom of speech in Maharashtra, Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri sought to remind Shiv Sena that their very founder, Balasaheb Thackeray was himself a cartoonist.
A 66 yr old Naval veteran was beaten up by Goondas for sharing a cartoon on WA in the city of Balasaheb who was a cartoonist himself.

Condemning the act in strong words, actress Preity Zinta tweeted:

On Friday evening, Madan Sharma, 62, a navy veteran was assaulted in his residence for sharing a cartoon about Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on social media. The attack was carried out by cadres of the Shiv Sena.
