Will protest against AIIMS Hospital in Madurai: Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman

The Central Government let by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made an announcement in in the Union Budget of 2015-16 for the establishment of AIIMS Hospital, a big dream for south India, especially Tamil Nadu. Following this, the Government of Tamil Nadu has taken various steps including the selection of the AIIMS hospital in Madurai

The 750-bed teaching hospital will be spread over 200 acres and will have facilities to accommodate 100 MBBS students and 60 nursing students. It will be established on a budget of Rs 1,500 crores.

In a letter to the prime minister, Palaniswami said the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa was very keen that an institution of the stature of AIIMS was established in Tamil Nadu for providing quality medical education, research, and high-end tertiary healthcare in the public sector for the benefit of the poor and middle-class.

The much anticipated AIIMS in Madurai district is expected to increase connectivity with several districts and will be a big boost to the middle class and poor sections of Tamil Nadu in terms of medical facilities. It is also expected to increase employment opportunities for medical aspirants in the state.

Leader of separatist political outfit Naam Tamilar Katchi, Sebastian Seeman, is know for making inflammatory and hardline speeches. Seeman and his party members have been found guilty of heading several protests, injuring civilians and police personnel in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Sebastian Seeman said in an interview to Thanthi TV that he would oppose the AIIMS hospital in Madurai. He said, “What will be the benefit of AIIMS for Tamil Nadu? How will it help my people?”

Seeman has questioned how doctors from North India, who do not know Tamil, would be able to provide medical treatment for Tamils.

Several users from Facebook and twitter have ridiculed Seeman for suggesting that only North Indian doctors will be employed in AIIMS or that language will be a barrier for doctors. They have also ridiculed him for trying to block something which will hugely benefit the poor and middle class of Tamil Nadu.
